eXposure Weekend Preview- March 12th
As we jump into another weekend with eXposure alumni, multiple players continue their big years at the onset of the 2021 season. We can’t touch on every player each week but let’s dive into just a few players to keep an eye on heading into the weekend.
John Behrends at Belmont is having a great junior season and also added a 3-5 game last night (Belmont started weekend series on Thursday) against UT-Martin with a HR. John is currently hitting at a .355 clip with 2 doubles, a triple, and HR. Belmont who lost last night looks to come back and win the next two games. Also in that game Blake Davis added a 1-2 game with a RBI and 2 walks for UT-Martin.
We will have to wait a few more days to see last weeks Co-Players of the Week, Micah Genter and Gunnar Ricketts for Carson Newman. They were scheduled to take on Newberry this weekend but because of Covid protocols in the Newberry program, those games have been postponed. Ricketts who was 6-10 with 3 doubles, HR, and 7 RBI last weekend will look to continue that pace next week. Not to be outdone, Micah Genter turned in a 7-12 weekend adding 4 doubles and 2 RBI.
MTSU battery mates, Peyton Wiggington (LHP) and Jake Hagenow (C) look to continue their combo this weekend against Valpraiso. Hagenow was 3-7 last weekend with a HR, double, and 3 RBI in a big series win over South Alabama while Peyton Wiggington was great once again going 6 innings and giving up just 2 runs. Wigginton currently has a 1.69 ERA over 16 innings and has given up just 13 hits.
Cleveland State returns to the field this weekend after a 2 week layoff for Covid protocols and will take on Motlow State at home and Lance Dockery looks to have a strong second half of the year. Currently hitting .300 with 4 HR and 11 RBI is poised for a big finish for the Cougars.
Mitch Jebb at Michigan State had a coming out party last weekend for the Spartans. The freshman SS had a 5-14 weekend with a double, triple, and RBI in Michigan State’s opening weekend. This upcoming weekend the Spartans head to South Carolina to take on Northwestern in a 4 game set.
Kentucky All-American, John Rhodes and the Wildcats will take on Georgia State this weekend in their last non-conference weekend and Rhodes looks to continue his normal ways. Currently on the year Rhodes is hitting .324 with 5 doubles, 2 HR and 8 RBI. Rhodes who was National Freshman of the Year last season has been a mainstay for the Wildcats since his arrival.
Vanderbilt heads to Stillwater, Oklahoma to take on Oklahoma State in a huge match up between two top 15 teams in the country. Parker Noland who has been a constant in the middle of the order for the Commodores is hitting .325 on the early season with 3 doubles, HR, and 11 RBI. Vanderbilt currently is sitting at 10-1 and the Cowboys are 10-0-1 so we expect a lot of fireworks this weekend in Oklahoma.
Lipscomb heads back to the field this weekend after a layoff with COVID as they take on the Georgia Bulldogs in a 3 game series. Ty Jones looks to emulate his last weekend where he was named A-Sun Player of the Week after a 6-10 stretch with 2 doubles, HR, and 5 RBI. The series will have a lot of familiar faces with Hank Bearden and Dwight Allen at Georgia taking on Maddux Houghton, Ty Jones, Chaz Bertolani, and Patrick Williams with the Bisons.
Gavin Rogers and West Alabama will be taking on Shorter College in Livingston, AL this weekend in a GSC Conference tilt. Rogers who was eXposure Co-Player of the Week after a 5-10 weekend with a double, HR, and 3 RBI looks to duplicate that this weekend for the Tigers.
ETSU heads to Durham, North Carolina this weekend to take on North Carolina Central and Ethan Cady has his sights on continuing to produce at a high pace for the Bucs. Cady was 4-10 last weekend with a HR and 3 doubles and also added another HR in midweek action.
